Derrick 'The Black Beast' Lewis is a fan-favorite UFC heavyweight who holds the promotion's all-time knockout record.

Derrick James Lewis was born on 7 February 1985 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the second-oldest of seven children raised by a single mother, and had a troubled adolescence marked by street fighting before the family relocated to Houston, Texas, in 1998. Two weeks after graduating high school, he was charged with aggravated assault and placed on probation, a turning point that eventually led him toward structured combat sports. Lewis began training in boxing at 17 and turned to mixed martial arts as a professional in 2010, developing into one of the most powerful punchers in UFC heavyweight history, nicknamed "The Black Beast." Lewis holds the UFC record for most knockouts in the promotion's history with 16, along with the record for most finishes in the heavyweight division, and became known for his colourful, unfiltered post-fight interviews as much as for his one-punch power inside the octagon. Lewis has continued competing at the top level of the UFC heavyweight division well into his forties, remaining one of the most popular and entertaining fighters on the roster despite a career built on far more knockout losses than most elite heavyweights typically absorb.

Lewis is primarily a striker who relies on devastating knockout power, particularly in his right hand. He often appears to be losing fights before landing dramatic comeback knockouts, showing incredible heart and durability.
