Swiss speed specialist and 2022 Olympic downhill champion who ended a 32-year wait for a Swiss women's World Championship downhill title.
Corinne Suter ended a 32-year Swiss women’s downhill world title drought at the 2021 World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo, then won Olympic downhill gold at Beijing 2022 by 0.16 seconds over Sofia Goggia. Her early career developed steadily, with a first podium arriving in January 2016 in the Zauchensee downhill. Suter's breakthrough season came in 2019-20, when a downhill win at Altenmarkt and a super-G win at Garmisch-Partenkirchen were enough to claim both season crystal globes - the downhill title making her the first Swiss woman to win it since Maria Walliser in 1986-87. She backed this up at the 2021 World Championships in Cortina d'Ampezzo, winning downhill gold by two-tenths of a second over Germany's Kira Weidle to end a 32-year wait for a Swiss women's downhill world title, having taken silver in the event at the 2019 Championships. Suter's career peak came at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, where she won gold in the downhill by 0.16 seconds over Italy's Sofia Goggia - Switzerland's fourth alpine gold of those Games. She added World Championship bronze in the downhill at the 2023 Championships and has continued competing at the top level through injuries including a 2023 concussion and a 2024 knee injury, returning to win a World Cup downhill race at Soldeu, Andorra in February 2026, shortly after the Milan-Cortina Olympics.
