The NFL's most complete back — the second player in history to rush and receive for 1,000 yards in the same season.
Christian Jackson McCaffrey was born in Castle Rock, Colorado in 1996. His father Ed McCaffrey played 13 NFL seasons and his grandfather Max Anderson played in the AFL. The Carolina Panthers selected him eighth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. He became one of only two players in NFL history — alongside Marshall Faulk in 1999 — to rush for 1,000 yards and receive for 1,000 yards in the same season, achieving this in 2019 when he accumulated 1,387 rushing yards and 1,005 receiving yards. Persistent ankle and shoulder injuries disrupted his 2020-22 seasons. He was traded to the San Francisco 49ers in October 2022 — arriving mid-season — and immediately transformed his offence. He won the NFL rushing title in 2023 with 1,459 yards and scored 21 total touchdowns — winning the AP Offensive Player of the Year award. He reached Super Bowl LVIII with San Francisco, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs. His combination of pass-catching ability, route running and elite rushing in a single position makes him the most versatile back in the modern game.
