Chloé Dygert

A dominant time-trialist, Dygert won the 2019 Worlds TT by a record margin, survived a severe leg injury in a 2020 crash, and won Olympic gold (team pursuit) and bronze (TT) at Paris 2024.

Born in the United States, Chloé Dygert emerged as one of American cycling's most dominant time trial specialists, winning her first world individual time trial title in 2019. She entered the 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Imola, Italy, as the reigning champion and a strong favorite to defend her title. During the 2020 time trial, Dygert lost control on a fast descending corner, crashing through a roadside barrier and sliding down a grass embankment in a horrific fall. She suffered a deep laceration to her left leg requiring surgery, and was airlifted to a hospital in Bologna. The injury proved career-threatening, and she required multiple further procedures over the following years. Dygert made her comeback at the pandemic-delayed 2021 Tokyo Olympics, finishing seventh, but continued to struggle with the lingering effects of her injury as well as a bout of Epstein-Barr virus in 2022 that caused chronic fatigue, forcing her to miss the World Championships in both 2021 and 2022. In August 2023, nearly three years after her crash, Dygert produced a triumphant comeback at the World Championships in Glasgow, winning the individual time trial to reclaim the rainbow jersey she had first won in 2019. She went on to win a further world time trial title in 2025, cementing her return to the top of the sport and establishing herself as the favorite heading into the Paris 2024 Olympics time trial.
