Chelsea Maree Pitman was born on 8 June 1988 in Paddington, Sydney, Australia, and attended St Andrew's Cathedral School before representing New South Wales at underage national championships and earning a place at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. Pitman began her senior career with New Zealand's Canterbury Tactix in 2010, before returning to Australia to play for the Queensland Firebirds and West Coast Fever, and won a gold medal with the Australian Diamonds at the 2011 World Netball Championships. Pitman relocated to England in 2015, playing for Manchester Thunder before a switch in international allegiance saw her represent the England Roses from 2017, achieving a historic gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games — becoming one of a small number of players to win major international honours with two different countries. Pitman continued playing across England and Australia, including spells with the Adelaide Thunderbirds, West Coast Fever, London Pulse, and Giants Netball, before transitioning into coaching in 2025 as head coach of the new Netball Super League franchise Nottingham Forest Netball, closing out a well-travelled career spanning two hemispheres and two international teams.
