Andriy Yarmolenko is a Ukrainian winger and national team captain, long considered the country's most talented player since Andriy Shevchenko, having starred for Dynamo Kyiv, Borussia Dortmund, and West Ham United.
Andriy Yarmolenko has represented Ukraine at four European Championships and accumulated more than 125 caps since 2009, making him his country's third-highest all-time scorer with 47 goals while serving as national team captain through some of the most turbulent years in Ukrainian history. He joined Dynamo Kyiv's academy at 13 but was initially sent home for a year before returning to break through, and made his senior debut for the club in 2008, sharing a dressing room with his childhood idol Andriy Shevchenko upon the striker's return from Milan. Yarmolenko spent nearly a decade at Dynamo Kyiv, winning three Ukrainian Premier League titles and two Ukrainian Cups, and finished as the league's top scorer in his final season, 2016-17. He moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2017, before joining West Ham United the following year, where he spent four seasons in the Premier League overcoming multiple significant injuries, including two Achilles tendon ruptures. Yarmolenko left West Ham in 2022 amid the outbreak of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, joining Al Ain in the UAE before returning home to Dynamo Kyiv in 2023, where he continued to captain both club and country. He has earned over 125 caps for Ukraine since 2009, becoming the national team's captain and its third-highest all-time goalscorer with 47 goals, and has represented the country at four European Championships (2012, 2016, 2020, 2024).
