Al Horford was born in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic on 3 June 1986. One of the most respected and professional players of his generation, Horford is a versatile, intelligent centre and power forward who has been an anchor at multiple franchises. He came through the University of Florida before Atlanta Hawks selected him third overall in the 2007 NBA Draft, where he spent nine seasons. He later played for Boston Celtics (twice), Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder. His basketball IQ, defensive switching ability and reliable mid-range shooting have made him invaluable across multiple systems. He won the NBA Championship with the Celtics in 2024 after multiple near-misses. Internationally he has long been the Dominican Republic's greatest basketball ambassador and the country's first player drafted in the first round of the NBA Draft.
