The Mozart of Table Tennis — the greatest non-Chinese player in the sport's history.
Jan-Ove Waldner was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1965. He won the Olympic gold medal at Barcelona 1992 and two World Championships — in 1989 and 1997. He is the only non-Chinese player to win two World Championships in the modern era. He was nicknamed the Mozart of Table Tennis for his creative, instinctive stroke play that defied analysis. He competed in five Olympic Games from 1988 to 2004 — winning medals at multiple Games. He remains the gold standard for non-Chinese talent in the sport. He is Sweden's most celebrated table tennis player and one of the sport's all-time most respected figures.
