Bobby Dazzler — three-time BDO World Championship finalist and the man who established the theatrical walk-on as a fundamental element of professional darts. George's candelabra entrance, rhinestone shirts and showmanship during the sport's 1980s television breakthrough made him one of the most recognisable and beloved figures in darts history.
Bobby George was born in Edmonton, London on 16 January 1945. He reached the BDO World Championship final three times — in 1979, 1980 and 1986 — without winning the title, making him one of the sport's most celebrated nearly-men. His theatrical entrance — walking to the oche carrying a lighted candelabra while dressed in rhinestone-studded shirts — was one of the first truly staged presentation in darts and established the theatrical tradition that is now fundamental to the sport. He was a consistently excellent player whose showmanship sometimes overshadowed the quality of his darts, but three World Championship finals is a record of genuine elite ability.
