The All Blacks' captain and World Rugby Player of Year 2023.
Ardie Savea was born in Wellington, New Zealand in 1993. His brother Julian Savea was also an All Blacks winger. He won World Rugby Player of the Year in 2023 — the award covering a World Cup year in which he was exceptional despite the All Blacks losing the final. He captained the All Blacks. His combination of pace (exceptional for a flanker), ball-carrying aggression and breakdown work has made him the most complete loose forward in world rugby since Richie McCaw. He is Samoan heritage, representing New Zealand's Pacific communities.
