Ardie Suemalo Savea was born on 14 October 1993 in Wellington, New Zealand, to Samoan parents Masina and Lina Savea, and grew up in a working-class household in the Berhampore and Island Bay areas, where his parents made significant sacrifices, including relying on public transport for the boys' early rugby commitments. He is the younger brother of fellow All Blacks winger Julian Savea. Savea attended Rongotai College, where he served as head boy and captained the First XV, before making his provincial debut for Wellington in 2012 at just 18 and his Super Rugby debut for the Hurricanes in 2013. His combination of explosive athleticism, powerful ball-carrying, and defensive intensity quickly marked him as one of the most dynamic loose forwards in world rugby. Savea made his All Blacks debut against Wales in 2016, and in his first Test start against South Africa that year, scored a try alongside his brother Julian — the first time brothers had scored in the same match for New Zealand.
